About The Production

This opening show was comissioned by the Reformaction Festival (3rd - 4th November 2017, Geneva, CH), the official National Youth event to commemorate 500 years of the Reformation. The show was co-created and co-directed with designer Justine Rieder and performed in front of more than 4700 young people from all over Switzerland.

Our Approach

The Performance took place against the Historical Reformation Wall in the Bastion Park in Geneva. The aim of the production was to link “then” and “now”, “ancient” and “modern” and to tell the reformers’ story through a modern lens. We achieved this through using the Wall as a link to show the similarities and differences between history and today, by demonstrating the meaning of the wall both physically and metaphorically. The wall, depicting a 500 year long history which unites the key leaders of the Reformation, was used as a backdrop for video mapping across 50 meters, while three stages were placed in front of the wall for the performers to represent the journey through music composed specifically for the production, audience participation, live singers and live drums.
